Journey nominated for 11 D.I.C.E awards

Journey is dominating the 2013 D.I.C.E. awards with 11 nominations including outstanding achievement in music composition, game direction and overall game of the year; leaving other games in the dust, so to speak.

This year’s D.I.C.E. ceremony will honour 63 games from console based to mobile and web games. Games competing with Journey for nominations include The Walking Dead with eight nominations, Far Cry 3 with seven, and Borderlands 2 and Halo 4 tied with five nominations each.

Going head to head with Journey for game of the year will be The Walking Dead, Far Cry 3, Borderlands 2, and XCOM: Enemy Unknown.

Martin Rae, president of the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences, said about 22,000 members of the academy will be voting on what game wins each category for this year, each an expert in their feild.

“We have a lot of great games that our members are looking at,” Rae said in an email response to Comics and Gaming Magazine. “There are always surprises when we find out the winners.”

Journey has already won some VGA awards including indie Game of The Year, Best PS3 Game and Best Original Score, as well as being nominated for Best Original Score at the Grammys.

Though Rae said he can’t speculate as to Journey’s chances in winning Game of The Year, Journey is definitely a strong contender.

According to Polygon, the awards ceremony will be hosted by Chris Hardwick of the The Nerdist and AMC’s Talking Dead, and streamed live at 7p.m. ET on Machinima. The D.I.C.E. awards will take place Feb. 7 at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vagas, Nevada during the Design Innovate, Communicate, Entertain summit.
