Quiet Purification Meets Unstoppable Cleaning Power

Dyson launches two major products in Canada: the ultra-quiet HushJet Purifier Compact and the powerful V16 Piston Animal vacuum.

Dyson does not usually do “small upgrades.” When the company announces new hardware, it tends to feel like an event. This September, Dyson is bringing two major products to Canada: the Dyson HushJet Purifier Compact and the Dyson V16 Piston Animal cordless vacuum. Both mark a significant leap from earlier designs—one focused on cleaner air, the other on cleaner floors—but what matters most is that both deliver on their promises in practice.

I spent some time with the new hardware ahead of its launch and came away impressed by how much quieter and more effective these machines are compared with the Dyson technology I have used in the past.

The Dyson HushJet Purifier Compact

On paper, the HushJet Purifier Compact is about quiet power. It ditches Dyson’s iconic loop for a new HushJet nozzle, modelled after jet engines, which concentrates airflow without the turbulence that usually creates noise. Dyson says it runs at just 24 dBA in night mode, and in practice, that is basically true—it is whisper quiet. With the purifier running, I often found myself double-checking whether it was even on.

The purifier uses Dyson’s new electrostatic HEPA filtration, capturing 99.97 percent of particles as small as 0.3 microns. It is designed to last up to five years before needing a replacement, a major improvement over the usual annual filter swap. The unit itself is compact, measuring about 11 inches in height and weighing only seven pounds, yet it has enough power to cover spaces of up to 203 sq. ft., making it ideal for a bedroom or apartment living room.

The real standout, though, is how unobtrusive it is. Air purifiers often involve a trade-off: either audible fan noise or underwhelming airflow. The HushJet threads the needle, circulating clean air without ever competing with your TV, conversations or sleep.

At $399.99 CAD, it is a premium-priced compact purifier, but it feels engineered to blend seamlessly into your home, doing its job without drawing attention to itself.

The Dyson V16 Piston Animal

If the HushJet is designed to fade into the background, the Dyson V16 Piston Animal is built to tackle the mess in front of you. Dyson calls it the company’s most powerful anti-tangle cordless vacuum yet, and after testing it, that claim feels earned.

Powered by a 900-watt Hyperdymium motor pushing out 315 air watts of suction, the V16 Piston Animal packs serious muscle. What stood out, though, was not just raw power but the new dual-conical All Floor Cones Sense cleaner head. In action, it delivers on Dyson’s promise: long hair and pet hair disappear straight into the bin instead of winding around the brush bar. That alone solves one of the most frustrating parts of vacuum ownership.

In testing, the V16 did more than handle everyday debris. It cleaned up ketchup on a hard floor using the upgraded Submarine 2.0 wet roller head. The roller applies water precisely to agitate stains and lift messes that are typically hard to clean. Combined with an adjustable hydration mode, it gives users more control for stubborn spots.

The vacuum also includes Dyson’s new CleanCompaktor bin, which compresses dust and debris to hold up to 30 days’ worth before it needs emptying. When it does, the bin wipes itself clean—no cloud of dust or clumps left behind. Runtime is up to 70 minutes, with swappable batteries available for bigger jobs.

Of course, this much tech comes at a price: the V16 Piston Animal retails for $1,099.99 CAD, with the Submarine wet-and-dry version going for $1,299.99 CAD. That positions it squarely in Dyson’s usual premium bracket.

Both the HushJet Purifier Compact and the V16 Piston Animal left a strong impression in testing. The purifier is striking for how quietly it makes itself essential, while the vacuum is unapologetically powerful and versatile, covering everything from pet hair to kitchen spills.

Dyson has made its name on engineering appliances that go a step beyond what’s expected. With these two launches, they’re pushing in opposite but complementary directions: one toward silence and subtlety, the other toward sheer cleaning power. Both are available in Canada starting September 4, 2025, and both are reminders that when Dyson swings big, it usually lands.
