EA Ends Origin Era, Moves All Users to the EA App Starting April 2025

EA's Origin Platform Will Stop Running in April 2025

In new support entries on the EA Help support website, EA has confirmed they will be shuttering EA’s Origin platform.

This week, EA posted new entries on its support page informing Origin platform users that the service will be shuttering on April 17, 2025. Both EA Help page postings say the service will be discontinued for Mac and PC, citing “Microsoft has stopped supporting 32-bit software” as the primary reason for the closing (a similar statement is made on the mirror EA Help page that references Apple no longer supporting 32-bit).

In both statements referencing Origin’s closure, EA has confirmed that it will be transitioning its service to the EA app, assuring users that all data and software will be retained during the move. In a statement on its support page, EA said, “Yes, your account and games will transfer to the EA app. Log in to the EA app with the same account you use for Origin,” emphasizing a seamless transition from the closing platform.

EA promises that even “in-game hours” will move over seamlessly to the EA app, and everything outside of outside mods will transfer without issue, so users will not lose any data or progress. The primary reasoning behind the Origin closure is the support for 32-bit software, so fans who want to utilize the EA app will need to upgrade their OS (Windows or Mac) to 64-bit, and download the EA app here.

While everything will be neatly packaged onto the EA app (even login credentials), EA noted back in 2020 that they were eventually going to cut their Origin app in favour of a service that will support EA Play and EA Play Pro subscriptions, and it appears the final bell for the existing app has tolled. Fans can visit the EA help website for more information.
