One of the leading brands in game capture, Elgato, has unveiled the new Elgato 4K S capture card that tethers 4K capture to a reasonable price point.
Known as an innovator in streaming and capture technology, the newly unveiled Elgato 4K S dares to break the mould set by other 4K devices by being a good amount cheaper than other options on the market. Game Capture 4K S is an external capture solution purposefully-built to bring gameplay sharing capabilities to the masses. The new game capture solution serves a variety of purposes, mainly it brings fans an easier method to stream or record their gameplay from a Mac, PC, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch (or Nintendo Switch 2), Xbox, or nearly any other HDMI-compatible device.

General Manager at Elgato, Julian Fest said, “From YouTube Let’s Play videos to Twitch streams and esports broadcasts, Elgato has empowered the creator revolution from day one. Now, with 4K S, we’re setting the new standard for game capture—one that’s more accessible, more dialed in, and more powerful than ever,” regarding the Elgato 4K S capture card.
The Elgato 2K S allows users to catch 4K60 quality with zero-latency passthrough, and near-zero software preview delay. Elgato boasts in-app capture previews respond with as little as 30 milliseconds of latency on capable setups, which can be considered smooth enough for most single-screen workflows. Elgato struck while the iron is hot and made the new 4K S capture card completely compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2 console (while docked) and it can even work with the latest iPad devices. This gives users iPadOS compatibility, letting creators to capture directly to iPad models with a USB-C port.
As a plus, the Elgato 4K S capture card brings stunning visuals to capture, with every pixel caught in clear 4K60 quality, preserving frames and textures with the expertise the company is known for. This lets high level Marvel Rivals and VALORANT gameplay to be caught exactly how it was played, in full 4K at potentially 60 FPS. This is a notable improvement over the previous Elgato device, as the older HD60 X only supported 4K capture at 30 FPS.

The Elgato 4K S capture card launches alongside the Elgato Studio, the company’s new capture application slated to replace 4KCU in coming months. The reason they’re deploying new studio functionality is to streamline the recording process to simplify workflow.
The Elagto 4K S is available now for 159.99 USD on the Elgato webstore, and that’s over a $100 discount from last year’s Elgato 4K Pro and Elgato 4K X, providing similar (but much weaker passthrough) specs for nearly half the price.
