Fallout 76 To Get Playable Ghouls In Early 2025

So There Are Consequences Of Nuclear Fallout

Fallout 76 To Get Playable Ghouls

Just announced during the Xbox showcase, Fallout 76 will be introducing player Ghouls in early 2025.

The recent Xbox Showcase showed an update for the Bethesda Game Studios’ Fallout 76, in which players will be able to play as Ghoul characters. Years of dropping nuclear bombs on the Appalachia region comes at a price with both the land and its people undergoing mutation. The ability to play as a ghoul unlocks for players at level 50 where they will be offered a quest that will begin the process of mutation. If taken Ghoul players will have a completely different experience in Appalachia.

As a Ghoul, players will gain access to dozens of unique perk cards and innate abilities. A great example of this, as discussed by John Rush (creative director on Fallout 76) during a recent press conference, is that some environmental effects that have historically been negative for players, like radiation, offer benefits to the Ghoul player. Additionally, players who choose to transform will be greeted with a unique appearance befitting of a Ghoul.

However, not everything will work in favour of the Ghoul players. During the conference, it was also noted that while these players will experience some benefits, they will also face new adversity. For example, some factions aren’t too keen on Ghouls running around and tend to deal with them with extreme prejudice. John also noted that players will have the option to change back and there will be an in-game explanation for this. Though when pressed he simply grinned and said we’d have to wait and see.

Fallout 76 was the first online game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and was released in November of 2018 to mixed reviews on all consoles and PC, including our own review.
