Families try out the Intellivision Amico for the First Time 1

Intellivision has released a video showcasing families playing its upcoming console, the Amico.

The video has a much more family-focused energy to it with parents and children playing the new Intellivision console for the first time. The public showcase and reaction of the device was hosted at The Crayola Experience in Easton, Pennsylvania, it featured interviews from the families and their thoughts on the Amico.

For anyone unaware, the Intellivision Amico was first announced back in 2018 as an investment crowdfunded console. Preorders are currently open for Intellivision’s newest console which will cost you $250 USD which currently has an option for a $100 downpayment.

There is a chance you might have heard about it at this past E3 in a negative sense. The Amico joined Intellivision at its virtual showcase at E3 2021 this year, which included multiple stock photos of families playing on a digitally replaced with Amico’s touchscreen controllers, which ArsTechnic editor, Sam Machkovech.

The stock photo move didn’t portray confidence in a device that’s set to release in less than three months. With that said, Intellivision CEO Tommy Tallarico unsuccessfully tried to defend the stock photo choice who would later threaten legal action – and would later ‘apologize’ – against Machkovech.

“That is exactly what stock photos are meant for and why they exist,” Tallarico said in a tweet.

The previously mentioned Crayola Experience Family video is possibly a remedy to the controversy. Since it was a public showcase, they got a seemingly legitimate reaction without the worry of paying actors/models or renting a studio.

The Intellivision Amico will feature LED Lighting, parental controls, 6 pre-installed games, 32 GB of internal storage (with an SD expansion slot). Games can be purchased digitally anywhere from $2.99 to $9.99 USD and are rated from E for everyone to E10+ for everyone 10 years or later. The Amico’s library won’t include games with profanity, blood, gore, sexually explicit content, loot boxes, in-game purchases, paid DLC, and advertisements.

The Intellivision Amico is set to release on October 10th for $249.99 USD. The consoles will be available in five colours including Glacier White, Graphite Black, Vintage Woodgrain, GTO Red, or Galaxy Purple.
