Yesterday, during a solo panel on the last day of FAN EXPO Canada 2025, legendary character actor Ron Perlman, known for playing iconic characters like Hellboy, Beast (from the late 80’s Beauty and the Beast television series, not Disney), outlaw biker Clay Morrow from the series Sons of Anarchy and other countless other roles across film, television, animation and videogames, gave his fans a faint glimmer of hope that he may return to portray Hellboy again one last time. He also dropped a cryptic suggestion that he may also be joining the cast of the Fallout TV series in the future, to the delight of all fans in attendance.

When asked by a fan if there was ever a possibility of a third live-action Hellboy movie, Perlman responded:
“Look, I’m 75 years old…but if Guillermo [del Toro] called and said ‘we’re doing the third [film] of the trilogy – and [those are] the only conditions I would do it under – it has to be the third of the trilogy because it was meant to be three movies, we see at the end of the second movie there are nothing but questions, all of the answers don’t come until the third one. That’s why I’ve been a pain in the ass all these years, so we need to do it, we need to do it, and I would do it today if Guillermo [were involved].”
When the same fan asked as a follow-up question if Perlman would consider appearing in an animated version, Perlman quickly cut him off. “F—k that, no, I’m not going to invest in Hellboy unless it’s the third and final movie in the trilogy (live action),” he insisted. “We have to get to see [it]… this is the Seed of Destruction. [Hellboy] is an entity that was sent to the earth to destroy the world, but he’s been raised to save it. Which one is going to win out? And that third movie would have been epic.”
Despite being a self-declared non-gamer, Perlman has voiced innumerable characters that appear in video games, and in the gaming sphere, he is probably most recognized for providing the voice of the opening and closing narrator in several of the mainline Fallout series of games, not to mention the famous line: “War never changes.” So with a second season of Prime Video’s Fallout TV series just around the corner, it was only natural that a fan of both Fallout and Perlman would eventually bring up said connection during the Q&A, inquiring if Perlman would consider taking on a role in the wildly popular show if it were to be offered to him by the showrunners.
“I can’t comment on that…” Perlman replied, sparking both giddy excitement and laughter from the audience as his voice drifted off, to which he reciprocated by leaning back in his chair and casually pretending to smoke an “afterglow” cigarette. Now it’s difficult to know precisely what Perlman meant to imply, as he’s not the kind of actor who follows gaming closely enough to confidently make in-jokes, but the only thing that appeared to matter to everyone in the room at that moment was that Perlman never said “no.”
So, to paraphrase Dumber and Dumber, Perlman’s telling us there’s a chance.
