Accidental Addition

Auto Draft

Xbox Brazil posted a Father’s Day ad yesterday that included Final Fantasy 7 Remake‘s Barrett Wallace, and Xbox has confirmed that this was indeed a mistake and not a teaser.

The Xbox Brazil ad was a touching notion, with the site posting a photo in grid tiling, with the numbers one through nine written in Portuguese featuring gaming’s most recognizable dads. But, fans noticed a flaw with the ad instantly, In the dead center under ‘pais’ (five in Portuguese), Final Fantasy 7 Remake‘s Barrett Wallace is front and center with his daughter Marlene. Fans have confused this mistake with an ‘accidental leak’ instead of just an accident, and the image — which has since been deleted — can be seen below.

The post featured eight other dads that can be found on the Xbox, so fans thinking this may have been an accidental leak carries weight. The timing of this slip-up is also notable considering the world’s biggest MMO, Final Fantasy 14, was recently revealed to release on the Xbox in Spring 2024.

Xbox confirmed in a statement to Eurogamer the post was indeed a mistake and said “The image was posted in error and removed as it included a title not available on Xbox”. For those still holding out hope Final Fantasy 7 Remake will release on Microsoft consoles, fans could look at the evidence presented in the over-a-year-long Microsoft acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Sony has effectively blocked the remake from landing on Xbox consoles, along with Silent Hill 2, and FromSoftware’s Bloodborne, and nothing was done to remove the exclusivity at that time.

So, while Xbox console fans are getting a Final Fantasy 14 port, besides this accidental post, there is no reason to believe the Final Fantasy 7 Remake exclusivity will end anytime soon. Fans can play Final Fantasy 7 Remake on their PC, and the entire experience (so far) is available on Steam.
