FTC Fortnite Refunds Dish Out Another $126 Million, Reopens Refund Claim Until July

The FTC is sending out another $126 million in Fortnite refunds, and they’re reopening the claim process for those who have yet to process a claim and are eligible.

For the uninitiated, Epic Games and Fortnite reached a massive lawsuit settlement to the tune of $520 million, citing privacy and deception as primary reasons for the largest lawsuit settlement in video game history. This settlement was reached back in 2022, and it ruled “Epic will pay $245 million to refund consumers for its dark patterns and billing practices, which is the FTC’s largest refund amount in a gaming case, and its largest administrative order in history,” for violating the COPPA rule.

Fortnite refunds were then finalized in 2023, with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission stating the Fortnite refunds process is moving forward stating “an order requiring Epic Games, the maker of the Fortnite video game, to pay $245 million to consumers to settle charges that the company used dark patterns to trick players into making unwanted purchases and let children rack up unauthorized charges without any parental involvement” ruling Epic Games and Fortnite were complicit in violating the COPPA rule, and putting them at fault for retaliating against parents that would file complaints.

This led to Fortnite refunds being doled out in December 2024, with fans reporting they indeed received adequate refunds in response to filling out the FTC paperwork. In December 2024, Epic Games distributed $72 million to fans who have properly claimed refunds, and the FTC left the refund request page open for fans to enter their player information to see if they’re eligible for the next wave of refunds.

Fortnite refunds have reached a new update today, with the FTC declaring they’re sending out more refunds to those affected. The official statement reads “The FTC will send 969,173 checks and PayPal payments on June 25 and June 26 to consumers who filed a valid claim.” So fans who have filled out the Fortnite refund paperwork from the FTC may be receiving payment today according to the FTC. Although more refunds are being sent out, the FTC is opening the claims process once again for fans to process a potential refund for unwanted purchases.

How to Process a Fortnite Refund Claim

To apply for a refund, visit www.fortniterefund.com/file-a-claim. You will need either a claim number or your Epic Account ID to complete the process. If you didn’t receive an email containing a claim number, you can find your Epic Account ID by following the instructions on Epic Games’ website to retrieve one. Fans should note that the FTC will not ask for other personal information outside of these two items, and they will not ask for any payment for services rendered.

The FTC plans to send out additional payments in 2026 after it has finished validating all claims, and fans should note that the Fortnite refund process is only open to U.S. residents as of the time of this post. Fans who think they’re eligible for a refund should finish their claim by July 9, 2025, the deadline for this refund wave.
