Youtuber John "TotalBiscuit" Bain Losses his Battle With Cancer at Age 33

John Bain, the British YouTuber known as TotalBiscuit as well as the Cynical Brit, has died after a long, drawn-out battle with cancer at the age of 33. Bain was known for his biting commentary, and unwillingness to back down when criticizing games.

The news was announced via TotalBiscuit’s Twitter account earlier tonight. His wife, Genna Bain, also tweeted about her late husband.

Bain revealed in 2014 that he had been diagnosed with cancer and that he had begun treatment through chemotherapy and radiation treatment. He later announced in 2015 that his cancer had been diagnosed as terminal. However, he continued to work on his YouTube channel and his podcast, the Co-Optional despite this.

Earlier in 2018, Bain announced that he would be retiring as a game critic, stating that conventional treatment was no longer effective. He posted his intention to retire on Reddit, telling fans that he didn’t expect to live much longer.

In the statement, Bain outlined “I fully expect The Co-optional Podcast to go on and I love the thought that once I’m gone, the channels will go on in my absence, hosted by the person who knows me best and has been with me for the better part of my adult life,”

Fans have come out in droves in support of Bain and his family, with YouTuber Josh Gaming lamenting on Twitter about how things can change in an instant, as well as many others using the hashtag #TotalBiscuit to show their support on Twitter. Voice actor at Balenaproductions, Steven Page, even tweeted out his condolences earlier tonight.

It is clear that John “TotalBiscuit” Bain had a huge influence on gamers and YouTube as a whole, and that he will be missed.
