Gamescom 2025: NVIDIA Announces Biggest Update to Project G-Assist Since Launch

At Gamescom 2025, Nvidia announced the biggest update to Project G-Assist since its launch, giving RTX systems the ability to optimize performance with the help of an on-device AI assistant.

First released earlier this year, Project G-Assist is a specially built, on-device AI tool that helps tune RTX-based systems for performance, visual fidelity or other preferences that affect the gaming experience. Now, at Gamescom, Nvidia has revealed the latest version of the AI assistant, which uses 40 percent less VRAM, improves tool-calling and now supports any RTX GPU with 6 GB of RAM or more. The company also introduced the new G-Assist Plugin Hub, allowing users to discover and download plugins that extend the tool’s capabilities and enhance PC performance.

For those who haven’t used G-Assist, the on-device model gives RTX GPU users the ability to speak directly to their PC and let the assistant handle complex or time-consuming tasks. That means spending less time frustrated over what to adjust—and more time enjoying the games they love.

Project G-Assist can manage a variety of tasks that would traditionally require navigating multiple menus, using either text prompts or voice commands. The AI assistant can:

  • Run diagnostics to optimize game performance
  • Display or chart frame rates, latency and GPU temperatures
  • Adjust GPU settings or even peripheral options, such as keyboard lighting

As G-Assist grows more powerful with each release, it’s becoming a valuable part of Nvidia’s suite of tools. If that weren’t enough, Nvidia also announced at Gamescom that a new update, launching in September, will introduce laptop-specific features. These include support for RTX-based laptops to take advantage of proprietary technologies such as BatteryBoost and BatteryOPS.

As noted above, G-Assist is also expanding its capabilities through plugin support. With the new Mod.io plugin, users can now ask G-Assist to search a library of user-created mods that enhance the AI assistant’s functionality. Even more exciting, anyone with knowledge of JSON and Python can now create new plugins using the G-Assist Plugin Builder, which streamlines the development process.

A recent hackathon showcased the potential of G-Assist’s plugin system, with finalists demonstrating just how far the on-device assistant can be pushed—and what new use cases are possible with community-built tools.

Some of the hackathon finalists include:

  • Omniplay – Enables gamers to use G-Assist to research lore from online wikis or take notes in real time while gaming
  • Launchpad – Lets gamers set, launch and toggle custom app groups on the fly to boost productivity
  • Flux NIM Microservice for G-Assist – Allows gamers to generate AI images directly within G-Assist using the on-device Nvidia NIM model

If this sounds like something you’d like to explore, you can download the latest Game Ready Driver on Aug. 19, install G-Assist via the Nvidia app, and press Alt + G to activate the assistant.
