Nearly five years after Ghost of Tsushima has shipped, Sucker Punch has just revealed a new trailer for the sequel Ghost of Yōtei, and a release date is scheduled for October.
Sony and Sucker Punch have blown the doors off the hinges regarding the upcoming follow-up to the fan-favourite July 2020 PlayStation console exclusive, Ghost of Tsushima. Today, the PlayStation Blog has released a slew of new information on Ghost of Yōtei, including a set-in-stone release date, pre-order information and a new trailer to tie it all together. The new trailer can be seen below.
First and foremost, the Senior Communications Manager at Sucker Punch Productions, Andrew Goldfarb says “While the stories are unrelated, it’s important to us to make this a worthy follow-up to Jin’s journey, and we can’t wait for you to experience Atsu’s quest for vengeance later this year” making a pertinent notion that Ghost of Yōtei is not a genuine sequel. The stories of Ghost of Tsushima and Ghost of Yōtei are told separately.
The new Ghost of Yōtei reveals a protagonist baptized by blood, as a gang of outlaws known as the Yōtei Six took everything from protagonist Atsu, killing her family and leaving her for dead after pinning her to a burning ginkgo tree just outside her family home. After surviving the attack on her home, Atsu learns how to fight, survive, and kill, swearing vengeance on the Yōtei Six in the “The Onryō’s List” trailer. The prologue takes place 16 years before the events of Ghost of Yōtei, allowing Atsu’s vengeance to stew. She wields the katana used to pin her to the tree 16 years ago to exact vengeance on her assailants.
Pre-orders for Ghost of Yōtei begin next week on May 2 at 10:00 a.m. EST and Sucker Punch has detailed a Collector’s Edition worthy of Ghost fans. The Collector’s Edition is available through the PlayStation Direct website globally and at “select retailers in other regions.” When pre-orders become available, fans can head to the official site here. Ghost of Yōtei launches globally on October 2, and pre-orders kick off on May 2.
