Ghostface Has Come To Play In Mortal Kombat 1

Warner Bros. Games has revealed a new gameplay trailer of the upcoming DLC guest fighter for Mortal Kombat 1, Ghostface.

Mortal Kombat 1 has unveiled a new gameplay trailer for its upcoming DLC guest fighter, Ghostface, showcasing his fighting style, second fatality, and teasing his vulture animality. In the trailer, Ghostface retains his quirkiness from the Scream movies, often nodding to the slasher film, breaking the fourth wall, and receiving assistance from another Ghostface killer for quick combos and switching between the two.

Focusing on Ghostface combat in Mortal Kombat 1, he resembles a human version of Noob Saibot, as he can make a call to receive assistance from another Ghostface while incorporating his signature slashing moves into his fighting style. What’s particularly interesting are his powers—he uses fire elements during his kicks like Liu Kang, throws a shadow projectile, and has his own variation of Kano’s special move, Black Dragon Ball. It’s a clever combination, as he draws on tropes from the Scream films and Mortal Kombat.

Near the end, we get to see Ghostface’s Fatal Blow, as he is assisted by two more Ghostfaces—one holding down the opponent, another running in to hit with a pan, and the third delivering the final blow. But it wouldn’t be Mortal Kombat without a fatality, which they deliver. In his second fatality, Ghostface brings Johnny Cage-like energy by breaking the fourth wall: he stabs Sub-Zero, then the scene zooms out to show Johnny Cage complaining about losing to him, only to be killed by the second Ghostface. It seems even Johnny isn’t safe from having his trope turned against him.
