The trailer for Gladiator 2, the highly anticipated sequel to Ridley Scott‘s 2000 film, has finally been revealed, and it showcases new characters and circumstances for the sequel.
An official X (formerly Twitter) account broke ground when dropping a Gladiator 2 trailer this morning on the account of the sequel film. The post reads, “From director Ridley Scott, watch the new Official Trailer for #GladiatorII starring Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington, Connie Nielsen, Joseph Quinn, and Fred Hechinger – Only in theatres November 22.” The full post (including the trailer) can be seen below.
The upcoming November film is the notable follow-up to the original (also directed by Ridley Scott) from 2000, starring Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix, which netted the production five total Oscars (not nominations, wins). The sequel is set ‘several decades’ after the events of the first and centres on the grandson of former Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius (now the grown-up nephew of Emperor Commodus) called Lucius (played by Paul Mescal), as he is sold into slavery following an invasion by a Roman General (Pedro Pascal). The film appears inspired by the original and not just by plot design, as Lucius also becomes a Gladiator in Gladiator 2 in an attempt to challenge the Emperor’s rule.

Ridley Scott serves as director for Gladiator 2, while David Scarpa serves as lead writer. The film is produced by Lucy Fisher, David Franzoni, Michael Pruss and Douglas Wick. Gladiator 2 is rounded out by a star-studded cast helmed by Paul Mescal as Lucius Verus, Pedro Pascal as Marcus Acacius, Connie Nielsen as Lucilla, Denzel Washington as Macrinus, Joseph Quinn as Emperor Geta, Fred Hechinger as Emperor Caracalla, Derek Jacobi as Senator Gracchus, with; May Calamawy, Lior Raz, Peter Mensah, and Matt Lucas.
Gladiator 2 is arriving in theatres on November 22, and fans can find more information on the official film’s X account.
