A new trailer has launched from developer Alkimia Interactive and THQ Nordic detailing new storyline elements and a release date for the upcoming Gothic 1 Remake.
The joint production between fledgling developer Alkimia Interactive and THQ Nordic has announced that Gothic 1 Remake will be coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on June 5. This is notably developer Alkimia Interactive’s debut title, and they’ve taken the reins from Piranha Bytes (responsible for the original that released in 2001) on the remake. The release date was revealed through a new trailer that can be seen below, which also confirms that digital pre-orders for the RPG will start soon.
With the tagline “Obedience is demanded. Hierarchy is enforced. And power rules all,” the Gothic 1 Remake takes place primarily in the Penal Colony of Khorinis and its Valley of Mines. The player will have to contend with a sort of caste system inside the colony, with many of the world’s factions at each other’s throats in their power grab efforts. The Bandits, the Mages, and the “Rulers” were introduced, but their motives remain a mystery.
This new Gothic 1 Remake trailer has also pulled back the curtain on the title’s combat systems, and it appears it has been cleaned up remarkably. The player can wield a variety of weapons, deploy new tactics, and unleash spells against adversaries in the action RPG remake. While the trailer has showcased gameplay and the stakes of Gothic 1, the developers have been hard at work on the remake for some time now.

Many of the storyline beats exposed in the new trailer (including the power dynamic and what players can expect out of NPCs) have been detailed on a long-running video diary series from the developers at Alikimia Interactive on the official THQ Nordic YouTube channel, so more information can be found there.
The Gothic 1 Remake launches on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on June 5.
