Rockstar has announced the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V will receive a free upgrade on March 4, 2025. The upgrade will bring many features from the Xbox Series X|S and PS5, such as new vehicles and upgrades from Hao’s Special Works, faster loading times, expanding graphics options, and many more.

Current Grand Theft Auto V owners on PC can upgrade to the new version for free and smoothly, with the Story Mode and Online progress intact. The features that will be included in GTA Online following the upgrade are:
- Hao’s Special Works – Introduces many new vehicles and upgrades, alongside the ability to test your driving skill with Premium Test Rides, HSW Races, and HSW Time Trials.
- New Animals – Encounter many rare animals that lurk across the Southern San Andreas and participate in the Wildlife Photography Challenge for new rewards.
- GTA+ Membership – A monthly subscription that rewards the players with special benefits, such as discounts for cars and modification parts, GTA$500,000 every month, free clothing, access to Rockstar game libraries, and more.
- Career Progress – Keep track of your criminal activity across all the GTA Online updates.
- Improved Landing Page – New GTA Online players can select from Executive, Gunrunner, Nightclub, Owner, or Biker as their starting point, and receive GTA$4 million to buy a property, vehicles, and more.
- Protection in GTA Online – The online mode will feature kernel-based anti-cheat protection and proactive voice chat moderation to ensure the game is running smoothly and fun for everyone.
The most exciting feature arriving for PC players is the technical enhancements. Depending on the user’s hardware, the Grand Theft Auto V upgrades will offer:
- Ray-tracing features that will be exclusive to PC, such as ambient occlusion and global illumination alongside the ray-traced shadow and reflection that were exclusive to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
- Support for AMD FSR1 and FSR3, and NVIDIA DLSS 3.
- Faster loading speed on SSD and DirectStorage.
- Take the visual aspect to the next level with higher resolution, aspect ratios, and framerates.
- PS5 DualSense controller support with adaptive triggers.
- Support for Dolby Atoms to enhance the audio experience and improve the fidelity of speech, cinematics, and music.
Rockstar has shared a specification sheet detailing the minimum and recommended specs needed to run the upgraded version of Grand Theft Auto V.

For players that do not meet the requirement to upgrade to the enhanced version of Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar will continue to support the previous version and ensure the roleplaying community, FiveM, continues until they have extended support for it on the upgraded version. However, players from the original version of Grand Theft Auto V and the upgraded version will not be able to play together and will need to play on the same version if they wish to play together.
Grand Theft Auto V PC version will receive the upgrade on March 4, 2025, allowing the players to continue their mayhem in Los Santos. For players interested in the upgrade, it is available on Steam, Rockstar Game Launcher, and Epic Games Store.
