According to Warner Bros. Discovery Chief, David Zaslav, Gremlins 3 has officially been greenlit!
It has been over 40 years since the original Gremlins film, and nearly 35 years since its sequel was released. After all that time, we have finally received news about Gremlins 3, the third official film in the franchise. During the Warner Bros. Discovery third-quarter earnings call, David Zaslav officially announced the return of the franchise.
Surprisingly, there were quite a few more details released about Gremlins 3, too. Normally, a first official announcement is all we get, but this time we have the writer, director, and even the specific release date. Original Gremlins writer Chris Columbus is back, and this time he takes both writing and directing credits, replacing the original’s director, Joe Dante, who is now nearly 79 years old. Zaslav also announced that Steven Spielberg is back as Executive Producer on Gremlins 3.

Though it has been decades since the originals, 2023 saw a revival of sorts with Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, which can be watched on Prime Video, following “The adventures of Sam Wing in his youth and Gizmo the Mogwai in China.” The series was 10 episodes long and was not brought back for a second season.
The original Gremlins movie synopsis reads, “After receiving an exotic small animal as a Christmas gift, a young man inadvertently breaks three important rules concerning his new pet, which unleashes a horde of malevolently mischievous creatures on a small town.” Those three rules are ingrained in every ’80s child still to this day. Do not expose it to bright light, do not get it wet and do NOT feed it after midnight! How the plot will be brought into 2027 is unknown at this time.
So far, there have not been any cast announcements, but there is an IMDb page live for the film. There is good news for fans of the original films: Gremlins 3 has also received an official release date, November 19, 2027. Those craving a little nostalgia will not have to wait long.
