Hellblade 2 was pushed as one of Microsoft’s big exclusive titles when revealed way back at the Game Awards 2019, but since its release not much has been revealed regarding sales data until today.
Since being released in May 2024 and being pushed as one of Xbox’s exclusive titles, sales figures regarding Hellblade 2 have been hard to come by until Circana analyst Mat Piscatella opened Pandora’s Box over on X (formerly Twitter). Below is his post on the top 10 best-selling Xbox titles, and while some titles appearing (like Fallout 4‘s sales spikes due to the popularity of the Prime Video series) can be explained, Hellblade 2’s absence is felt.
Analyst Mat Piscatella goes a step further and mentions Hellblade 2 sales numbers specifically, stating, “Getting a lot of questions on this one… Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II ranked 37th overall for May 2024 in US full game dollar sales (physical + digital for sharing pubs), while ranking 21st on Xbox Series” going one step further by revealing Fallout 76 performed better on the Xbox Series X, placing 11th with Hellblade 2 placing 12th in overall sales. It’s worth mentioning Forza Horizon 5 was notably placed #15 overall in sales for May 2024, and it was released far back in November 2021.
Hellblade 2 didn’t fare much better on Steamchartz since release, hitting a peak player total of just 3,982 for all of May 2024. CGMagazine’s review of Ninja Theory’s latest title says, “Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 delivers an unforgettable cinematic experience that lingers in the mind long after the credits roll.” The title performed better critically, receiving an 80% on Metacritic, but that still didn’t save the sales numbers behind the single-player sequel.
While Helldivers 2 was #1 in overall sales for May 2024, it’s notable that it has not been included on a subscription service since launch, whereas Hellblade 2 has been available on Xbox Game Pass since release, which could have played a role in the sales figures.
