A report from Jan 3 detailed the cancellation of a Hidden Path X Dungeons & Dragons project with Wizards of the Coast, but fans were assured its still happening.
In a bizarre 180, a game project was reported to be cancelled and not cancelled in the same week. Bloomberg released a report detailing the cancellation of five video game projects with Wizards of the Coast, with the in-development-stage Hidden Path title on the receiving end of the cancel stick. In a plot twist, the @HiddenPathEnt Twitter handle released a statement not only debunking the cancellation claim, but that they are actively recruiting for the project with a job posting. This tweet can be seen below.
The Bloomberg article penned by reporter Jason Schreier said “But the reorganization will land hard for several independent studios such as Boston-based Otherside Entertainment and Bellevue, Washington-based Hidden Path Entertainment, both of which were working on games for Wizards of the Coast,” regarding the ‘hard landing’ for the developer.
Schreier has taken to Twitter with a response after Thursday’s job post stating “This is a very unusual and very unfortunate situation, but we stand by our reporting. Both a source and a Wizards of the Coast spokesperson told Bloomberg on Tuesday that Hidden Path’s D&D game is cancelled,” regarding the situation.

Another notable and not-addressed issue about this sequence is the initial Bloomberg report listed “five video game projects” and “Fewer than 15 people at Wizards of the Coast will lose their jobs” when reporting the cancellation. Otherside Entertainment has not provided a statement just yet regarding the impending cancellation, and the other five titles have not been confirmed cancels either. Wizards of the Coast has also not expanded on the lost jobs statement, so while the Hidden Path project may still be moving forward, the other reported details have yet to be addressed.
The next Dungeons & Dragons video game release is Baldur’s Gate 3, and it’s still on track for an August 2023 launch, but regarding the unannounced Wizards of the Coast projects fans will have to stay tuned on what happens over the next few days as the situation clears up.
