Netflix's Kaos Has Been Cancelled After 1 Season

Netflix’s new Greek mythology series, which launched last August, has now been cancelled by the streaming service after only one season.

One of the biggest original shows out of Netflix UK was a contemporary portrayal of Greek Gods in a comedy setting. Led by Jeff Goldblum as Zeus, the Netflix Original series Kaos was released this August to mixed reviews, and Netflix has now decided to cancel the show outright before it receives a second season. The show premiered on August 29 and spent four weeks in Netflix’s Top 10 listing at the time. The cancellation was initially revealed by co-star Aurora Perrineau (who played Eurydice in Kaos) in a now-deleted Instagram post, with reports now corroborating the news.

Charlie Covell (The End of the F**ing World*), who wrote the entire eight-episode Kaos series, expressed his hopes for the show in an interview with Cosmopolitan. On August 29, he said, “My dream was three seasons. I’ve got many ideas and a strong sense of what I’d want to do with it,” though he acknowledged that the show might not make it past the first season. He added, “I hope that it feels satisfying as a season one in its own right, and there’s always hope for more. I really would love to do more work with those actors and that team. It was a bit of a dream come true.”

In the now-deleted Instagram post, Perrineau lamented the show’s cancellation, writing, “Everyone was brilliant and uniquely themselves. Every performance surprised and excited me. I can’t believe I got to do this with all of you. We made something weird, dark, hilarious, deranged and absolutely tragic—something entirely human. THIS is a feeling I plan to take with me,” concluding with a thank you to fans who enjoyed Kaos.

While Kaos will not return for a second season, as Covell said, the entire eight-episode series can still be watched “in its own right” on Netflix.
