King of Fighters XIV Officially Announced for Steam

King of Fighters XIV Officially Announced for Steam 1

The previously exclusive PlayStation 4 title King of Fighters XIV (not including the arcade version) will soon be branching out to a different platform. Sorry Nintendo fans, this is not referring to the Switch. SNK, the developer and publisher responsible for the fighting game, announced this morning on their Twitter page (also via a presentation) that King of Fighters XIV would be making its way onto Steam.

While they did not specify a particular launch date, they did hint that the Steam version “is almost here”. All in the meanwhile, informing their fans to stay tuned as they would reveal the official release date. But, they did confirm that a closed beta would be planned for later in the month; in addition to the game being available for pre-order.

PlayStation 4 users have already been able to enjoy the experiences in King of Fighters XIV, as it launched last August on the console. For those unaware, it is a fighting video game and happens to be the first mainline title in the franchise to be fully rendered in 3D. Since its unveiling at that time, it has been met with above-average reviews from critics across the web.

Most critics agree that the gameplay mechanics are suitable enough for fighting aficionados and beginners alike. But, some have criticized the 3D models; as well as the subpar story mode. However, the latter is a common complaint in the fighting genre.

Fans will also have to stay tuned to see if SNK plans on implementing cross play within the Steam and PlayStation communities. No word on that yet, but fans are already pleading for it.
