LEGO Luigi Starter Kit will Introduce Co-op to LEGO Mario

With the launch of Lego Luigi‘s starter kit more than a month away, LEGO has announced that the LEGO figure will introduce a co-op mode to both Nintendo LEGO figures.

That’s right if you already have a LEGO Mario figure and you’re planning to get the LEGO set of Mario‘s taller sibling this August then they’ll be able to interact with each other right out of the box. Two people can play with both figures in the interactive LEGO Super Mario stages in ‘two-player action’ in either co-operative or competitive play.

“This new super-interactive way of playing enables children to explore the unique courses they build with a friend or family member.” LEGO announced in a statement “Together they can earn bonus digital coins for in-sync actions like flipping and jumping, and share extra rewards for defeating enemies and completing challenges as a team. Or they can change things up and compete against each other.”

Nintendo officially revealed the LEGO Luigi starter kit back in April, which at the time was totally expected as the figure was leaked a day before on Amazon China. A little before that, a firmware update for LEGO Mario caused the figure to call out for Luigi in its sleep.

The LEGO Luigi starter kit is set to launch first in Japan on July 10th and worldwide on August 1st. For anyone interested you can still pre-order it on LEGO’s online store for $69.99 CAD. The starter kit isn’t the only Nintendo-related Lego product coming out as the Bowser’s Airship playset will also be launching the same day as LEGO Luigi.

The Nintendo line of Lego products first launched with LEGO Mario back in August of last year. Since then the LEGO group has released a multitude of courses and expansion packs which has featured characters like Yoshi, Toad, and Bowser. LEGO has stated that the Super Mario LEGO line has been “one of the company’s most successful theme launches.”
