Lucca Comics & Games is kicking off on October 30th, 2024, and fans can expect to see activities from Dungeons & Dragons, gaming activations, series screenings, and much more!
Lucca Comics & Games will be making a return from October 30th to November 3rd. The festival will present many programs for international guests, including screenings, tournaments, gaming sessions, workshops, and more. Alongside the list of features that guests can look forward to, the festival has unveiled the second poster titled CRESCENDO, inspired by Madame Butterfly as part of a tribute to Giacomo Puccini called The Butterfly Effect as it is divided into three acts and designed by the legendary Japanese artist, Sensei Yoshitaka Amano.
Something major to note at the Lucca Comics & Games 2024 is the Dungeons & Dragons 50th anniversary, as the festivals will pay a special tribute to the iconic role-playing game. To learn more about the Dungeons & Dragons tribute and features to expect, read more below!
Homage to Puccini at Lucca Comics & Games

Continuing the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Puccini’s death, the brand new show Concerto a due per Puccini will be held on the first evening of Lucca Comics & Games on October 30th. The show is an unpublished bio-piece on the Italian composer, produced by Teatro del Giglio of Lucca in collaboration with the festival organization, as the work showcases a portrait of the man and the artist created by Francesco Niccolini, the Tuscan playwright, and brought to fruition by Alessio Boni.
Alongside the actor and artist, Alessandro Quarta, who is known for being a great composer and violinist, will be on stage with the illustration by Sensei Yoshitaka Amano, the author of three posters for Lucca Comics & Games 2024, in homage to Giacomo Puccini as they form the opera’s scenography.
Streaming and Films at Lucca Comics & Games

For all the fans of cinema and TV shows, Lucca Comics & Games will be hosting a variety of streaming and previews curated by QMI. During the screening of films, attendees will get the chance to watch Longlegs from its Horror Nights event, Prophecy by Brandon Box inspired by the Japanese manga and illustrated by Tetsuya Tsutsui, Hayao Miyazaki and The Heron which is a documentary about the making of The Boy and the Heron, and many more.
But for many TV show lovers, attendees will get the chance to visit a pop-up store dedicated to Squid Game with an opportunity to meet Hwang Dong-Hyuk and the stars Lee Jung-Jae and Wi Ha-Jun from the Netflix stand, Disney+ stand screening the final two episodes of Agatha All, a stand for One Piece to celebrate its 25th anniversary with Tatsuya Nagamine and Kenji Yokoyama by Toei Animation Europe, and tons of more to look out for.

Fantasy at Lucca Comics & Games

As the attendees immerse themselves into the world of fantasy at Lucca Comics & Games, there will be many booths to visit and chances to meet big authors, from the horror icon R.L Stine to the iconic Lord of the Rings author J.R.R. Tolkien. There will also be the Vendetta d’inchiostro launch by Mondadori Libri per Ragazzi, an overview of the Cyberpunk culture and many more to explore.
Dungeons & Dragons 50th Anniversary at Lucca Comics & Games

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Dungeons & Dragons, Lucca Comics & Games will be going big. Many game sessions can be attended, curated by The Agency and Kraken APS, plus a Dungeons & Deejay Lucca Comics & Game special edition. LEGO’s first pop-up store will be there in partnership with Percassi, and the fans will get the chance to meet Lucas Bolt, aka Boltbuild, the designer of LEGO Ideas Dungeons & Dragons: Tale of the Red Dragon. And an absolute must-see at Lucca Comics & Games is the Gateway to Adventure – 50 Years of D&D Art, putting over 140 items from the Koder collection on display—a collection of D&D art that goes all the way back to the beginning.
But to solidify the tribute to Dungeons & Dragons 50th Anniversary, there will be a naming ceremony on October 30th by the municipal administration of Lucca of the underground of the San Paolino Bastion to Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson. Leaving a permanent mark in the city for the decades of their work as they brought much happiness to the players throughout the years.

With how huge video games are, there will be many stands to visit for a chance to preview new games from Monster Hunter Wilds to Little Nightmares III, watch Valorant tournaments hosted by Riot Games, a parade for Fallout 76 by Bethesda Game Studio, learn about the creative process behind Baldur Gate III with Jason Latino, Joachim Vleminckx, and Borislav Slavov, and many more.
With the many video games the attendees can preview and pop-up store to visit, Lucca Comics & Games will be celebrating the 40 Years of Tetris with Alexey L. Pajitnov, the creator of Tetris, and Henk B. Rogers, the co-founder of The Tetris Company. As they share the history of the game and its impact on pop culture, they will be attending the Matera Film Festival to continue the celebration as they announce their multi-year collaboration characterized by transmedia and attention to new and renewed language from November 3rd to 10th, with the participation of Henk Rogers.

As the Comic area occupies the city center at Lucca Comics & Games, the festival will be embracing four continents for their contribution to comics. To celebrate, there will be 82 Italian and foreign publishers across four continents present at the festival, alongside many mangakas with twelve authors from Japan, four from Taiwan, three from China, and three from South Korea.

There is a wide range of exhibitions you can visit, from the Amano Corpus Animae to explore more than 100 original works from Yoshitaka Amano, Jubilé Hurlant to look back 50 years of Jean-Pierre Dionnet and his cult magazine, Métal Hurlant, and Kalimatuna – Our words of freedom, exploring the works with a unique voice from Takoua Ben Mohamed, Zainab Fasiki, and Deena Mohamed.
