Marvel’s Kevin Feige Responds to James Cameron and Announces the Eternals for Phase 4

Marvel's Kevin Feige Responds to James Cameron and Announces the Eternals for Phase 4 1

Over the weekend, James Cameron, who is known for his involvement in franchises such as the TerminatorAlien, and Avatar, had some choice words about superhero franchises, calling out Marvel in particular.

In an interview with IndieWire, Cameron said: “I’m hoping we’ll start getting ‘Avenger’ fatigue here pretty soon. Not that I don’t love the movies. It’s just, come on guys, there are other stories to tell besides hyper-gonadal males without families doing death-defying things for two hours and wrecking cities in the process. It’s like, oy!”

Clearly, Cameron, who has four more Avatar films in development, believes that long-running superhero franchises will eventually go the way of the Western. However, when asked about the comments, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige took it all in stride.

Taking the high-road, Feige said,Uh, he loves the movies! That’s awesome! Wow, James Cameron loves our movies! That’s exciting!” Feige was quick to move on from Cameron’s words, even choosing to focus on the fact that Cameron said he likes Marvel films.

To show how quickly he’s moved on, Feige announced today that, in the wake of Avengers: Infinity War, the powers that be at Marvel Studios have begun discussions about giving the Eternals their own film.

The Eternals are a group that is often overshadowed by their greatest member: The Mad-Titan himself, Thanos. So, it makes sense that after Infinity War, Marvel would want to discuss a film centring on the Eternals.

The film would follow much of the same path as the Guardians of the Galaxy, since many of the members are not household names. The only one who even comes close to the same level of fame as Thanos is his brother, Starfox, who is able to control other people’s emotions and has become something of a superhero on Earth.

With everything going on behind the scenes, Feige still wants fans to remember that Avengers: Infinity War will be coming out this Friday.
