2nm Power Meets On-Device AI

MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro Unveiled As Company’s First 2nm Flagship Chipset

MediaTek is kicking off the next generation of flagship mobile hardware with the Dimensity 9600 Pro, a 2nm chip built around faster performance, better efficiency and much more powerful on-device AI.

MediaTek wastes no time announcing its next range of flagship SoCs, with the new Dimensity range looking to power the latest smartphones. Built on a new 2nm process node, the chipset marks a first for the company and a major milestone for the mobile industry as a whole.

The Dimensity 9600 Pro features a 2+3+3 All Big Core CPU design, built around two C2-Ultra cores clocked at up to 4.55 GHz, alongside three C2-Pro big cores at 4.35 GHz and three more at 3.1 GHz. MediaTek claims the setup delivers up to 17 per cent higher single-core performance and up to 15% higher multi-core performance over the previous generation, all while cutting multi-core power consumption by 61%.

A dual-NPU architecture and an Agentic AI Engine are built to handle on-device intelligence that can perceive, reason, and act securely, supporting large language models with up to 30 billion parameters. The second-generation Super Efficient NPU reduces power draw by 40% for always-on AI, while the setup promises 51% higher LLM prefill performance and 55% better token generation per watt. The chipset also debuts LPDDR6 memory and UFS 5.0 storage on the Dimensity platform, backed by a larger 34.5 MB cache.

The integrated G2-Ultra NX GPU delivers up to 27% higher peak performance, 24% lower power consumption at peak performance, and 18% faster ray tracing, pushing console-grade gaming up to 185 fps. MediaTek’s HyperEngine, along with the new Dimensity Neural Graphics Architecture, ensures that gameplay remains smooth and immersive. For creators, the Imagiq 1290 ISP introduces 4K/240 fps ultra-slow-motion video to the platform, alongside 4K/60 fps AI True Color Tone, 4K/120 fps cinematic log, and 17 EV imaging.

MediaTek is widening access as well with the Dimensity 9600M, a sibling chip that brings the same Agentic AI Engine and Dimensity Scheduling Engine to more devices, pairing flagship-level performance with power-efficient AI, imaging and gaming features.

The first smartphones powered by the Dimensity 9600 Pro and Dimensity 9600M are expected to hit shelves later this quarter, so stay tuned to CGMagazine as we get our hands on the new devices and see how the new SoCs stack up.
