With Kojima Productions and A24 announcing a live-action Death Stranding in 2023, A Quiet Place: Day One director Michael Sarnoski is set to direct the upcoming film.
Following the success of A Quiet Place: Day One, Deadline has reported that Michael Sarnoski will direct a live-action Death Stranding with Kojima Productions and A24, bringing Hideo Kojima’s sci-fi game to the big screen. Sarnoski is currently working on his upcoming film with A24, The Death of Robin Hood, and will be responsible for both writing and directing the live-action adaptation. Square Peg will join A24 and Kojima Productions as a producer.

Not much information has been shared about the film. The last update came during the SAG-AFTRA strike in Hollywood. While giving a production update about OD and Physint being halted due to casting suspensions, Kojima briefly commented on the Death Stranding adaptation, stating: “Preparation and planning for the live-action DS film with A24, as well as other adaptations, are underway.”
Although details remain scarce, Kojima Productions is set to release Death Stranding 2: On the Beach on June 26, 2025, for the PlayStation 5. The game follows Sam Porter Bridges as he embarks on a new journey to save humanity from extinction. During your quest, you’ll explore an open-world environment filled with secrets, battle enemies head-on or with stealth, and make choices that affect the game world.

Sarnoski’s portfolio is notable. He directed the critically acclaimed Pig, starring Nicolas Cage, and A Quiet Place spinoff A Quiet Place: Day One, starring Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn. His upcoming project, The Death of Robin Hood, stars Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer. A darker reimagining of the classic tales, it follows Robin Hood grappling with his past life of crime and murder.
With such an impressive resume, it’s exciting to imagine how the live-action Death Stranding film will take shape, with Michael Sarnoski joining Kojima Productions, A24 and Square Peg for the production.
