The New Mickey 17 Trailer is a Robert Pattinson Massacre

Warner Bros. Canada has unveiled a trailer for director Bong Joon Ho’s newest film, Mickey 17, and it’s heavy on the dead Pattinsons.

Following the award-winning Parasite, Bong Joon Ho’s newest film remained under wraps until Tuesday this week. Warner Bros. Canada has now revealed the trailer for the upcoming sci-fi film Mickey 17, and in the debut, lead actor Robert Pattinson, who plays the titular character Mickey Barnes, has a unique job — Barnes is contracted to die for a living. The reveal trailer can be seen below, in all its bloody Pattinson glory.

Interestingly, while Bong Joon Ho’s last film, Parasite, was adapted into a graphic novel after its success, Mickey 17 is based on the novel Mickey 7 by Edward Ashton. The film explores the fragility of life and Mickey Barnes’ general indifference to death after being condemned to die so many times.

In this sci-fi universe, “Expendable” is a profession for someone who takes on the most dangerous jobs, and if they die, it advances human science. Another Mickey is then printed for the next dangerous task, rinse and repeat. In Ashton’s novel, the exploits of Mickey 7 are explored, but Mickey 17 appears to feature many doubles of Mickey — and, notably, they may not even like each other. In the trailer, Barnes can be heard arguing with himself, saying, “I don’t like you,” to which another Barnes responds, “But I’m you!”

Mickey 17 arrives in theaters on January 31, 2025.
