After a turbulent launch this week, MindsEye continues to have trouble with performance issues and PlayStation has begun approving refunds, the dev team has issued an apology today.
After a very troubled launch week, MindsEye continues to be dragged for poor performance. User ratings for the title have started as “mostly negative,” lifted to “mixed,” and now it sits at “mostly negative” again on the Steam platform (after over 1,000 user reviews) due to issues fans have had running the title since the June 10 launch. Right before launch, Build a Rocket Boy released a launch trailer and it can be seen below. The trailer is where fans started noticing the issues with performance, as is outlaid in many of the complaints on Steam.
It didn’t help issues when the co-CEO of Build a Rocket Boy, Mark Gerhard said he believes MindsEye was receiving bad feedback for financial gain in an exchange on Discord unearthed by Eurogamer. The developers at Build a Rocket Boy says it’s working “around the clock” on performance improvements, and that the first in a series of planned patches is slated to arrive on PC at the end of this week. It’s worth noting right before the title launched, two chief executives left Build a Rocket Boy right before MindsEye‘s launch, and it’s possible foresight on launch issues could have been the reason.

The issues plaguing MindsEye have gotten so bad, users have reported success requesting refunds from PlayStation for MindsEye. PlayStation has a notoriously stiff refund policy, and the only other instance of them folding for customers in recent history is the Cyberpunk 2077 debacle that saw customers flood the marketplace with refund requests after a poorly received launch period.
Cyberpunk 2077 saw similar complaints from fans with issues of bugs and glitches, broken AI, and game crashes. One user, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his experience getting refunded from PlayStation, and it seemed seamless. “Playstation refunded me Mindseye!!!” he declared in the post, with a screenshot showing PlayStation’s message.
The developers for MindsEye and Build a Rocket Boy have responded today in a long-winded post on X apologizing to fans on the state of the game as it is. The post reads “We are heartbroken that not every player was able to experience the game as we intended. Our priority is optimizing performance and stability so that every player, across every device, can enjoy an equally high-quality experience” adding “We are fully committed to ensuring all our players have a great experience, and we will continue to provide frequent and transparent updates.”
So while MindsEye continues to have issues, fans should note the developers are aware and are working to fix performance (and other) issues quickly.
