Minecraft has had a massive move into other entertainment, first, they unveiled their upcoming film plans starring Jack Black in 2023, and today they unveiled a new anime series on Netflix.
In celebration of the Minecraft 15th anniversary, there have been numerous exciting announcements that fans of the open-world sandbox building game should be anticipating. Last year, the Mojang team revealed that a feature Minecraft film is in the works (starring Jack Black and Jason Momoa). Today, Netflix has upped the ante by announcing a new animated series featuring everyone’s favourite blocky characters. The very brief teaser trailer can be seen below.
The exciting film announcement was followed with a wealth of information, including the main two star’s announcement and being helmed by Napoleon Dynamite’s Jared Hess, film plans struggled for a decade before we came to a forecasted launch date of April 2025. Unfortunately this time, Mojang has left fans almost fully in the dark, and it may be perhaps due to the former announcements of the film cast falling through the cracks. Even Steve Carrell was attached to the Minecraft film at one point before dropping out due to scheduling issues.

The animated series over at Netflix has only 20 seconds of confirmed information on the internet. The small teaser starts with the iconic adversarial (and explosive) Creeper character jumping into the frame, similar to how the lamp (called Luxo Jr.) stomps out the I in the PIXAR logo. But then it explodes and reveals the Minecraft logo, and reveals that there will be an animated series coming soon.
While not much else has been revealed about the upcoming series, CGMagazine will keep readers updated on future developments for the upcoming animated series. Fans can head to the official Netflix Tudum site for more information on their productions in the meantime.
