Tom Cruise revealed the official title this morning, Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, as Paramount drops a teaser trailer.
Reading this article poses you no threat, but should you choose to accept there may be some slight spoilers from Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One. Tom Cruise unveiled the title for the Mission: Impossible sequel and final film of the series this morning on social media, Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning. Then, Paramount dropped a teaser trailer and visual poster. The expected release date for the film is May 23, 2025. Cruise’s Ethan Hunt is running around to save the world one last time, expected to be one final spectacular mission.
The film was originally set to be called Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part Two, but the title was apparently changed to separate the box office flop of Part One. It also had to compete with the cultural phenomenon “Barbenheimer” last summer, the simultaneous release of Oppenheimer and Barbie. Once it moved to digital streaming, it was simply titled Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning.
Regardless, Ethan is back after the cliffhanger ending. The only synopsis for Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning is “Our lives are the sum of our choices.” The trailer showed a bunch of action stunts of Ethan piloting a biplane, scuba-diving and running in the iconic Cruise fashion. All of this is narrated by various characters throughout the franchise.

The trailer for Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning also showed many familiar faces returning, such as Ving Rhames (Luther Stickell) and Simon Pegg (Benji Dunn)—Ethan’s longest-running IMF teammates. Haley Atwell (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) returns as Grace, who Ethan met in the last film, and she is now an IMF agent. Esai Morales is back as the villainous Gabriel. At the same time, Vanessa Kirby (Napoleon) reprises her role as Alanna Mitsopolis, aka the White Widow, alongside Pom Klementieff (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3) as Paris, who might now be on Ethan’s side.
Some new cast joining this final mission in Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning include Hannah Waddingham, Angela Bassett, Nick Offerman, Katy O’Brian and Janet McTeer, while Rolf Saxon reprises his role as William Donloe from the very first Mission: Impossible movie. One of the only major characters who has not returned yet for a couple movies is Jeremy Renner as William Brandt. Surely they are saving this reveal for this one, however, nothing is confirmed.
