Naughty Dog Has Another Unannounced Title in Development, Reports Suggest for 3 Years

According to reports that surfaced today, Naughty Dog has another unannounced game in development, and it has reportedly been in the works for three years.

A new report regarding the massive development studio Naughty Dog suggests that the studio has been developing an unannounced game for three years. The report, posted to known insider DanielRPK’s Patreon and covered by The Game Post, indicates that Naughty Dog’s latest unannounced game is not The Last of Us Part 3. The unannounced title is reportedly being led by Shaun Escayg, the director of PlayStation’s Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and Marvel’s Avengers (and a key figure in the development of the original The Last of Us).

Shaun Escayg serves as acting Creative Director for Naughty Dog, and according to his official LinkedIn account, he joined the developer in April 2021 and has remained as such for the past four years. Escayg’s last credit on a completed title was serving as Director on The Last of Us: Part I in 2022, and before that the 20-minute short film Ikarus. The timeline of a new title from Creative Director Escayg and Naught Dog fits the reports of an unannounced title being in development for the past three years.

Considering Naughty Dog has been hard at work on their newly revealed title at The Game Awards 2024, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, it’s worth noting that Shaun Escayg has not been officially confirmed as part of that project since its announcement. Earlier this month, Neil Druckmann made headlines when he said, “I guess the only thing I would say is don’t bet on there being more of The Last of Us. This could be it,” suggesting the second game may be the last installment in the massive video game franchise.

It’s important for fans to take all the reported information regarding an unannounced title with a grain of salt, as Naughty Dog has neither confirmed nor denied the existence of any additional projects at this time.
