Netflix Announces Big Horizon Zero Dawn Series From The Umbrella Academy Showrunner 4

Netflix has more big announcements, and as the paint dries on The Umbrella Academy‘s fourth and final season reveal, a Horizon Zero Dawn adaptation is born with the same showrunner.

The Umbrella Academy has recently revealed the comic series, turned live-action Netflix original, will see its curtain call after season four. The Gerard Way comic of the same name has received notable acclaim since starting back in 2019, and has had a strong showing through the previous three seasons. The final season will effectively end the story of the Hargreeve’s with a flourish.

While The Umbrella Academy‘s final fourth season hasn’t entered the production stage just yet, they’ve revealed that the cast will reprise their roles for last call. This doesn’t leave showrunner Steve Blackman in the cold, as Netflix has effectively tagged him for show running duties on a new adaptation on the mighty streaming platform, an adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn, which will fall under the new Irish Cowboy production umbrella. Another new project in the works from the new Netflix x Blackman deal is called Orbital, a space thriller born from the renewed creative partnership.

In an interview with Tudum, Blackman revealed some info about the new Horizon Zero Dawn series, stating “Horizon Zero Dawn and Orbital are on the surface very different shows from each other and from The Umbrella Academy. One takes place a thousand years in the future, in a world completely remade by massive machines. The other is set near present-day on a space station,” in comparison with his latest feature. He continues with:

Horizon Zero Dawn is an exceptionally well-crafted game with wonderful characters not often seen in the rank-and-file of the gaming world. Guerrilla Games has created an incredibly lush and vivid world of man and machine who find themselves on a collision course to oblivion. Their salvation comes in the form of a young female warrior named Aloy, who has no idea she’s the key to saving the world. Suffice it to say, yes, Aloy will be a main character in our story. My writing partner on this, Michelle Lovretta, and I are thrilled to be able to expand this remarkable IP into a series for all types of viewers.
