Netflix just announced that Noomi Rapace and Sean Harris have joined the cast of their upcoming Assassin’s Creed live-action series.

One of Ubisoft’s best-selling video game franchises has an update to its live-action adaptation series on Netflix. Netflix announced today that the upcoming Assassin’s Creed series added Noomi Rapace, Sean Harris, Ramzy Bedia, and Corrado Invernizzi to the cast. The series has been in the works for about the past five years, still keeping exact story details under wraps. The series has a logline that shows promise and would work as an adaptation based on the video game series. Entertainment reports have already noticed that filming began in Rome, Italy, on March 9, 2026.

The earliest news of Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed series was first announced back on October 27, 2020. Netflix and Ubisoft shared that they were working together to make the show happen, and the producers recognized they needed a long format to do the expansive lore justice for the franchise. Here is the current description of the show: “Assassin’s Creed is a high-octane thriller centered on the secret war between two shadowy factions—one set on determining mankind’s future through control and manipulation, while the other fights to preserve free will. The series follows its characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity’s destiny.”

Earlier casting news revealed Lola Petticrew, Toby Wallace, Tanzyn Crawford, Laura Marcus, and Zachary Hart would star as the series regulars set to explore the world of Assassin’s Creed. Robert Patino and David Wiener will serve as the show’s creators, showrunners, and executive producers. They have been behind shows like Westworld, Sons of Anarchy, and Halo. The Halo part scares me a bit, but these creatives sound passionate about this project.

“We’ve been fans of Assassin’s Creed since its release in 2007. Every day we work on this show, we come away excited and humbled by the possibilities that Assassin’s Creed opens to us,” Wiener and Patino said in a joint statement. “We’ve got an amazing team behind us with the folks at Ubisoft and our champions at Netflix, and we’re committed to creating something undeniable for fans all over the planet.” In addition to Wiener and Patino, executive producers include Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television, and Matt O’Toole.

As someone who has played many of these games, I am very excited to see how this world will flesh out its lore and characters across timelines. I am curious how they will blend new characters with notable characters like Altaïr Ibn-La’Ahad and Ezio Auditore da Firenze. The series format should work better than the 2016 Michael Fassbender-led Assassin’s Creed movie, which tried to cram too much lore for a casual movie-watching audience.

While a live-action Assassin’s Creed story is currently 0-1 on connecting with video game fans, Netflix have been nailing their adaptations more than missing. Hopefully, this one will be on the level of recent animated adaptations such as Castlevania, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and Splinter Cell: Deathwatch. There is still no release date or window for this upcoming series, but it will most likely be out in 2027, as filming should wrap by the end of this year. We will be keeping a close eye on updates on Tudum.
