New details for Assassin's Creed: Revelations

A NeoGAF user gives us an early look at the next issue of Game Informer.

The next issue of Game Informer has a plethora of new details about Assassin’s Creed: Revelations and NeoGAF user SolidSnakex managed to get an early copy of the magazine. Everything sounds plausible, but the rest of the world hasn’t seen the article so you’ll have to take this information with a grain of salt.

In Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, players will reportedly step into the shoes of both Ezio (now over 50) and Altair, the protagonist from the first Assassin’s Creed. The game is set in Constantinople, where Ezio is searching for seals that will allow him to relive the memories of Altair just as the Animus allows Desmond to relive the memories of his ancestors.

Desmond will once again be playable in Revelations, although his segments are described as narrative-fueled puzzle sequences in which players will have to manipulate the geometry of the environment. Desmond has gained access to a hidden “Black Room” in the Animus and will use it to learn more about his past and his lineage.

Constantinople has been split into four districts (Constantin, Beyazid, Imperial, and Galata), and most of Revelations will be spent in the city that is today called Istanbul. There are a few missions that will send players to Cappadocia, and Ubisoft is doing away with side-missions in favor of random events like store robberies or muggings.

The Borgia Towers mechanic from Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood returns with new Assassin’s Dens.  Each tower that you take over becomes a den, and players will be able to upgrade the surrounding buildings and add zip lines throughout the city. The dens will occasionally come under attack, and will be defended by assassins that can be recruited and trained throughout the game.

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations also introduces some new weapons and gameplay mechanics. The hookblade will allow Ezio to travel on zip lines and Ubisoft says that it reduces travel time by about 30%. The hookblade can be used during battle to grab out of reach enemies, and Ezio will also have access to over 300 types of bombs through a crafting system. Eagle Vision, meanwhile, is now called Eagle Sense, and will show players both where they’re going and where they’ve been. Players will be able to use the information to set up a trap or an ambush.

Finally, multiplayer will be making a return, although there will be a greater focus on narrative and players will have the ability to customize a character’s appearance and weapons and create a guild. Revelations will be using Mocam facial capture technology that Game Informer describes as an “intriguing amalgamation of traditional animation, performance capture and the fascinating new style of performance on display in games like LA Noire.”

If true, there’s quite a bit of new material going into Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, and it’s impressive when you consider that Brotherhood hasn’t even been on shelves for a year.
