Niantic has announced the Road to Unova event, which will take place before the launch of Pokémon GO Tour: Unova, helping players get into a Unova state of mind.

Running from February 24th to March 1st, Pokémon GO will be kicking off the Road to Unova event before Pokémon GO Tour: Unova is launched globally to help the players get into the Unova state of mind. As a preparation for the upcoming event, players will receive a Tour Pass ahead of the event with an option to purchase a deluxe variant, Shiny Meloetta making a debut, a paid ticket to enhance the adventure, participate in raids, and many more.

Ahead of the release of Pokémon GO Tour: Unova, players will automatically receive a Tour Pass from Feb. 24 to March 2, a limited-time progression track that offers ranked rewards and bonuses upon completing the Pass Task and using the collected Tour Points to receive rewards. For those interested, a paid variant called the Tour Pass Deluxe will allow players to unlock upgraded rewards, faster progression, automatic encounters with the Mythical Pokémon Victini, and a new item called the Lucky Trinket after ranking to the highest tier.

Making its debut in Pokémon GO, players can encounter a Shiny Meloetta using the Masterwork Research ticket at the start of the Road to Unova event. The tickets will be available for purchase in the in-game shop for $4.99 (U.S.) from the beginning of the event until the end, and the Masterwork Research will not expire, allowing players to complete it at their own pace.

To enhance their Unova experience, there will be a Road to Unova Paid Tickets available for players to receive additional bonuses, event-themed Timed Research, and new avatar items. To break down the rewards that will be available, players can receive:

During the Pokémon GO: Road to Unova event, there will be various Pokémon raids the Trainers can participate in alongside the five-star raids featured in a Raid Hour from 6 PM to 7 PM local time for each day following the schedule. The raids that Trainers can partake in are:

  • Snivy: One-Star Raids
  • Tepig: One-Star Raids
  • Oshawott: One-Star Raids
  • Druddigon: Three-Star Raids
  • Genesect (Normal) with Normal-type Techno Blast (Five-Star Raids, February 24)
  • Genesect (Shock Drive) with Eletricl-type Techno Blast (Five-Star Raids, February 24)
  • Genesect (Burn Drive) with Fire-type Techno Blast (Five-Star Raids, February 24)
  • Genesect (Chill Drive) with Ice-type Techno Blast (Five-Star Raids, February 24)
  • Genesect (Douse Drive) with Water-type Techno Blast (Five-Star Raids, February 24)
  • Cobalion (Five-Star Raids, February 25)
  • Terrakion (Five-Star Raids, February 25)
  • Virizion (Five-Star Raids, February 25)
  • Therian Forme Tornadus (Five-Star Raids, February 26)
  • Therian Forme Thundurus (Five-Star Raids, February 26)

Trainers who participate in the five-star raids during the Pokémon GO: Road to Unova event will have the chance to receive new Special Backgrounds after a successful catch. The backgrounds will appear on the Pokémon summary page, showcasing when the Pokémon was caught and celebrating their adventures leading up to the Pokémon GO Tour. The event will feature two Special Backgrounds for the players to collect, with each being inspired by Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version. The Pokémon that will receive a special background are:

  • Cobalion, Terrakion, Virizion, Therian Forme Landorus, and Genesect – Can use either background
  • Therian Forme Tornadus and Reshiram – Have a background inspired by the Pokémon Black Version
  • Therian Forme Thundurus and Zekrom – Have a background inspired by the Pokémon White Version
  • If a Zekrom or Reshiram is fused with a Kyurem with a Special Background of the opposite colour, the fused Black Kyurem or White Kyurem will have its own variant background. 

For the Pokémon GO Trainers who are into collecting and hatching eggs, players can expect the following Pokémon that will be hatched during the Road to Unova event:

  • Roggenrola
  • Timburr
  • Karrablast
  • Shelmet
  • Larvesta

Alongside the Pokémon you can receive from the hatched eggs in Pokémon GO, there will be event bonuses during the Road to Unova event. The bonuses Trainers can expect are 1/2 Egg Hatch Distance when the Eggs are placed in an incubator during the event, the Remote Raid Pass limit increased to 20 from February 24 to February 28, and no limit on the Remote Raids from March 1 to March 2, 2025. 

There will be a Pokémon GO Tour: Unova-themed Time Reseach available during the event. By completing the research task, the Trainers can encounter the event-themed Pokémon in the following order:

  • Terrakion
  • Cobalion
  • Virizion
  • Therian Forme Tornadus
  • Therian Forme Thundurus
  • Therian Forme Landorus
  • Genesect
  • Genesect (Burn Drive)
  • Genesect (Douse Drive)
  • Genesect (Shock Drive)
  • Genesect (Chill Drive)

Not to mention, there will be a Pokémon GO Tour: Unova-themed Field Research task available and by completing the research task, Trainers can encounter: 

  • Snivy
  • Tepig
  • Oshawott
  • Roggenrola
  • Timburr
  • Karrablast
  • Shelmet

For Trainers interested in customizing their characters, two items will be available during and after the event, alongside a free item. The two avatar items that will be available are Black Kyurem Wings and White Kyurem Backpack, and players can obtain the Go Tour 2025 Tee as a free Tour Pass reward. Alongside the avatar items, Trainers can collect Pokémon GO Tour: Unova-themed stickers from PokéStops and gifts from Feb. 24 to March 2, and the stickers will be available in the in-game shop from Feb. 21 to March 2.

Lastly, the Pokédex will get a visual update in time for the Pokémon GO Tour: Unova event. The updates are aimed at helping Trainers easily identify which Pokémon they have already caught and which they have yet to collect. With the improved Pokédex, Trainers can ensure they have caught all the available Pokémon during the event and beyond.
