Yesterday, Nintendo announced a Nintendo Direct livestream to showcase its new museum, which is due to open in Japan later in 2024.
Nintendo fans will be delighted to hear that the latest Direct will feature a museum tour of their upcoming opening later this year. The Nintendo Museum Direct livestream is set for 3:00 PM PT today, August 19, 2024, and will offer a 10-minute tour of the Nintendo Museum scheduled to open in Kyoto, Japan, this fall. The company’s social media was quick to add that there would be no mention of the Switch 2, though.
Although there was no update on the progress of the Nintendo Switch 2, fans should be treated to a cozy, thorough virtual tour of the Nintendo Museum, which is due to open in Japan in 2024. Not all Nintendo Directs have to be about big consoles or games! In fact, there was the notable Nintendo Direct that introduced The Super Mario Bros. Movie and another that announced the build-up to the opening of Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios.
Nintendo announced the creation of this museum, which is dedicated to its history, earlier in late 2023 and said that it would be completed in 2024. After having finished construction just a few months back, Nintendo is now ready to show off what the location will feature for those looking to visit it, it is expected that the building will respect the history of the company. While yet to be confirmed, it will most likely pay homage to their 1889 origins as a Hanafuda playing card company.

The excitement surrounding Nintendo’s next console, dubbed the Switch 2 by the community, is just as high as it was for the original Switch. As the original Switch nears its eighth birthday, the brains behind the Super Mario Bros. games have indicated that Switch 2 will not be released until April 2025 at the earliest. Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa has also confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 will continue using the Nintendo Account system already in place for Switch and Nintendo’s mobile games.
Nintendo is expected to announce the console during this financial year, which ends on March 31, 2025. Fans can expect another Nintendo Direct in September, as Nintendo tends to further highlight the games that it is planning to release in the back half of the year.
