At long last, the Animal Crossing mobile game has officially been revealed.
Nintendo held a short presentation last night, giving us a first look at the upcoming free-to-play mobile game based on the Animal Crossing series. Titled Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, players will be put in charge of managing their very own campsite where different villagers will come to visit and spend their time.
Similar to Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer for the 3DS, players will be able create their own avatar from the start, selecting their gender, hair, and skin color. For the first time in the series, players will have to collect materials in order to craft furniture along with special buildings known as amenities. Players can then freely decorate their campsite, attracting different villagers to come and check things out.
In order to collect materials, players will be able to visit a number of locations by driving there in their personal RV. Like the campsite, players can decorate the interior of their mobile home and even get it painted by new characters Giovanni, Carlo, and Beppe.
As with previous titles, villagers can be chatted with, and will sometimes give the player presents or ask for favours. Completing these requests will help to increase the player’s “friendship level”, displaying how much the character likes them.
Nintendo also spoke about micro transactions during the presentation in the form of a new type of currency called Leaf Tickets. While it’s possible to obtain them through in-game means, players can also purchase them with real money. Leaf Tickets can be used in place of normal materials or to speed up the time of crafting items.
Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp will also feature online connectivity, allowing players to interact with friends. After adding a friend, players can visit each other’s campsites, give kudos or buy items that players have put up for sale.
Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp will be available sometime next month for iOS and Android devices with pre-registration open for anyone eager to jump into the game the minute it launches.
