Nintendo Switch Outsells Competition in December 1

December was another good month for the Nintendo Switch as the console set a number of sales milestones.

Nintendo announced that their hybrid console was the highest selling console in the U.S market, with over 1.5 million units moved in December. The month is generally the busiest of the year in terms of video game console and software sales, as it is the peak of the holiday shopping season.

The strong month moved Nintendo Switch’s lifetime sales to over 4.8 million in the U.S, making it the fastest selling console in history. Back in early December, the console crossed the 10 million unit mark worldwide.

On the other console front, Xbox’s head of marketing, Aaron Greenberg, revealed that the XBox One enjoyed its highest December console share ever. The system managed to outsell the PS4, although it wasn’t able to topple the Switch.

Often forgotten in the light of the console war fanfare, the Nintendo 3Ds quietly enjoyed its best month since December 2014. The portable system sold over 750,000 units, a 27 percent increase over the same period a year ago and managed to bring its lifelong numbers up to 21 million.
