Though the upcoming One Piece series is currently being filmed, co-showrunners Matt Owens and Steven Maeda, plus actor Iñaki Godoy recently dropped by Netflix’s Geeked Week to hype up their new show and give fans a taste of what they have in store.
The trio didn’t share many behind-the-scenes shots from their upcoming production. However, a new behind-the-scenes video released made it clear that its One Piece will be a much more exciting adaptation for Brian Olencki and Eric Vale. It hopes to capture the magic of the show, unlike previous efforts like Death Note.
“Because of the level of detail and attention that goes into all of these sets, they take a good amount of time,” Owens said. “Right now we’re building Arlong’s map room, and it’s already been a couple of weeks, but it’s a big build because it’s a really important location.”
In the video, one could actually feel how both Wolfgang and Noriyuki were impressed with Oda’s creativity in his world building. They said that they felt they really had to really think outside the box when designing a lot of vehicles and rides. Even in the early stages of production, the sets and ships feel real, giving a tangible place to walk and explore, giving the world of One Piece a new life in live action form.
One Piece is an action-adventure anime that follows the story of Monkey D. Luffy, a boy who dreams of finding One Piece a legendary treasure. He gathers a group of brave men and women to help him on his journey and as they grow as pirates they help each other overcome new obstacles along the way! It remains to be seen if Netflix can capture the magic of the show, but early shots should give fans hope the series looks to be nailing the look at very least.
If that were not enough, Netflix also revealed that Langley Kirkwood, Celeste Loots, Alexander Maniatis, Craig Fairbrass, Steven Ward, and Chioma Umeal and many other talented actors are set to join the series currently in production.
