Payday 3 May Get Offline Mode As Launch Struggles Continue

Matchmaking Error

Auto Draft

Since its launch last week, Payday 3 has suffered from debilitating matchmaking issues that have left the community battered with disconnections, and devs say an offline mode could happen.

To say that Payday 3 has gotten off to a rocky start would be an understatement, with many reports from players claiming that it is “impossible” to get into a match due to constant disconnection issues. For the uninitiated, Payday 3 requires an online connection to play, and it has apparently not been played much, if at all.

The fan backlash has been immense as Reddit users have clamoured towards complaints about the title’s servers in droves, and the Metacritic user score has dropped to an abysmal 23%, with one user, JackTarot, saying, “The game is really fun when it works but that’s the problem it almost never works.” Developer Starbreeze has heard the complaints and has released a statement on how they aim to right the ship.

Payday 3 May Get Offline Mode As Launch Struggles Continue

CEO of Starbreeze Entertainment, Tobias Sjögren said “We are disappointed in the issues our player base has faced during our launch weekend, but we are confident in our core product and the quality of PAYDAY 3 – and all available metrics point to it. We have a lot of diligent and consistent work ahead of us to regain community trust, but we will work hard to do it” regarding the constant issues fans have been facing. In the statement, Starbreeze continuously refers to a third-party matchmaking partner as the biggest catalyst for the issues the title faces.

CEO Sjögren replied to a fan on X (formerly Twitter) with a possible solution that might be in the works: an offline mode. One of the biggest issues users have with Payday 3 is that a constant internet connection is a necessary requirement even to play the single-player mode, and the team at Starbreeze is looking to fix that. But regarding the mention of the offline mode, there is only this one tweet from the CEO, and no other information has been provided yet on how Starbreeze Entertainment will accomplish this feature.

Payday 3 is currently offline for updates, and another update session is scheduled for this Friday, September 29. While there is no formal announcement on an offline mode, fans can see that Starbreeze appears to be taking things very seriously moving forward.
