Philips Hue has introduced a new light strip along their line of smart RGB products, giving TVs a chance to literally shine colours according to what’s playing in a room.

According to Signify in a release, the Play Gradient LED strips can be stuck to TVs starting at 55-inches or more and emit ambient light that matches with their movies or TV shows for immersion. The strips emanate whatever programs are showing, across a living room’s walls to create an instant theme. The Play Gradient Strips uses its multiple RGB bulbs to mix colours instantly, while evenly distributing it on walls at a 45 degree angle. There are also 16 million light sources from the strip, which can also create normal white lights. TVs will also get an effect behind the experience with low-power settings.

“We are constantly looking for new ways to take smart lighting entertainment to the next level with Philips Hue,” Phillips Hue Business Lead Jasper Vervoort said, adding the strip can enhance the viewing experience naturally. “Our new Philips Hue Play gradient lightstrip generates multiple colors at once and blends them together seamlessly, creating a magical viewing effect around your TV. We’re proud to offer our consumers such a truly immersive experience in their own home.”

The strips are also compatible with existing Philips smart lights and can be synchornized to add ambient lighting in real-time for anything shown on their TV screens. As a smart product, the strip can also be controlled via phone through its Hue Sync app. This is where users can change the strip’s settings, including brightness, color-change speed and frequency for patterns. Users can also control it through the desktop PC app or a Phillips Hue Play HDMI sync box for other applications beyond the TV.

According to Signify, the Philips Hue Play Gradient Lightstrip can be ordered online or purchased through retailers on October 6, 2020 worldwide in three different sizes:

  • 55-inch (fits TV sizes 55 to 60 inches) – 239.99 CAD MSRP
  • 65-inch (fits TV sizes 65 to 70 inches) – 269.99 CAD MSRP
