Prime Video Highlights International Original Content This Week

Prime Video held a showcase this week focusing on its many international originals for the streaming service that are premiering or returning soon.

Starting with a flash teaser that showcases the broad spectrum of properties they are releasing, it looks like Prime Video has committed to originality. Numerous shows were given teasers and updates, with stars and directors involved being interviewed as well. Some of those who were spoken to were actors Stanley Tucci, Nicole Wallace, Park Min-young and Wi Hajun, actors and filmmakers Dolores Fonzi, Alia Bhatt, and author Mercedes Ron. Stories from around the world have been continuing to top Prime Video’s most-watched charts, so they are now giving the fans more of what they want.

Anime has experienced a sort of renaissance in recent years, and the streaming service has been taking notice. Prime Video has taken in three famous anime for the 2026 slate, with FIST OF THE NORTH STAR: HOKUTO NO KEN being the most popular. Produced by TMS Entertainment, they have acquired the sole worldwide rights to this reboot of the beloved series. Prime Video aims to re-imagine this series as an “animated experience combining cutting-edge computer-generated imagery (CG) with hand-drawn animation,” according to the press release.

There have also been ventures into the book world, announcing that Mercedes Ron has her latest book in development with Amazon MGM Studios, marking the first U.S. adaptation of the Spanish author’s work. This comes after announcements of forays into the online storytelling community, such as Love Me, Love Me, which is based on the most successful Italian-language book published on Wattpad. Wattpad is an online platform where users can create and publish their own stories for everyone to read. One of the most successful stories on the platform, Perfect Liars, has 140 million reads and now has its own show coming as well.

Korean Content has also spurred Prime Video’s creativity with past successes like Marry My Husband and No Gain No Love, both reaching the platform’s global top 10 based on out-of-country viewership. Many of the new titles that were revealed in the showcase were focused on romance-led storytelling with some twists thrown in as well.  Highlights include Absolute Value of Romance, a meta romantic comedy starring Kim Hyang Gi and global K-pop idols; Human x Gumiho (working title), a supernatural romance led by Jun Ji Hyun (a.k.a Gianna Jun) and Ji Chang Wook; and Siren’s Kiss, a psychological thriller starring Park Min-young and Wi Hajun.

Following in theme with international content, India was another giant that had its time in the limelight with the Prime Video showcase. One of its originals Don’t Be Shy looks to be a young-adult, female-forward coming-of-age drama that will be written and directed by Sreeti Mukerji and produced by Alia Bhatt and Shaheen Bhatt under Eternal Sunshine Productions.

“We are delighted to offer this early preview of compelling titles from our Anime, Korean, and Indian slate at the inaugural Prime Video Presents International Originals,” said Gaurav Gandhi, Vice President, APAC & ANZ, Prime Video. “This is just a taste of what’s in store for our customers in 2026 — we have so much more coming. Content from Japan, Korea, and India is emerging as a powerful cultural force in global entertainment, driven by emotionally authentic stories that resonate far beyond their home markets.”

Along with everything previously mentioned, properties like THE GHOST IN THE SHELL, Absolute Value of Romance, See You at Work Tomorrow!, The Sacred Jewel and From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman II will also be headliners in 2026. Prime Video has also promised that all movies and series will be available in over 30 languages, with up to 36 subtitled and 22 dubbed language options, across 240 countries and territories worldwide in 2026. Stay tuned for the full list of release dates and shows coming soon from Amazon MGM Studios, and Prime Video.
