The Red Dead Redemption PC Port May Have Gotten Unofficially Delayed

PlayStation (and Rockstar Games) have been porting games over to PC with big success for several years, but fans still questioning Red Dead Redemption‘s absence on PC might need to wait longer.

While rumours have been swirling around the internet since the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC, the original game starring John Marston and what put the huge western series on the map for Rockstar Games is still (officially) relegated to consoles. This appears to be the case for the immediate future, considering the Rockstar forums have been abuzz with reports, rumours, datamines, and more regarding the PC port of the original title. A new posting on the GTA Forums has revealed (unofficially) that the technical code strings involving PC architecture may have been inserted into the launcher’s code earlier than intended, which led to the rumours that started on May 14.

On the GTA Forum, user Tez2 posted “At this point, the unintended push wasn’t meant for an announcement but was likely a result of whatever Rockstar is cooking for the launcher with the new branch. They shifted to this branch about a month and a half ago, and the May 14th launcher update was the first one based on this branch. The strings appeared the day prior, so the timing is rather convenient. The scenario behind this seems to be just a simple case of them moving stuff from the old branch to the new one and then pushing it into the public branch” with a simple conclusion of “Basically, pushed too early.”

It’s important to note, that Rockstar Games has not announced a Red Dead Redemption PC port and has only mentioned that ‘they were interested’ in bringing the series to the PC (which has since been true due to Red Dead Redemption 2 releasing on PC in 2019).One fan (user Hammerfist11) has even remarked on the forum “I have been waiting 14 years, 70 days is nothing in comparison” so fans are taking the rumours and data mining thus far as factual.

So while rumours, datamines, and speculation are fun to digest and look into, fans should stifle their hopes on any ‘news’ until official announcements are made, which could happen in a lot longer than 70 days. Fans can head to the forum to read the conversation in the meantime.
