Rise of the Ronin Save Data Bug Wipes Hours of Progress—Team Ninja Working on Fix

The Data Has Gone Rogue

Rise of the Ronin PC Wipe Issue Is Still Under Investigation

Team Ninja responds to the issue of Rise of the Ronin PC players losing their save data and is working on a solution.

Rise of the Ronin was released on Steam last week with extensive technical support, including DirectX 12 Ultimate compatibility. However, PC players have reported that their save data has disappeared, forcing them to replay parts of the game repeatedly. The developer, Team Ninja, stated on its social media accounts that it is working on a fix but encourages players to use certain workarounds in the meantime.

“Been playing for a few hours and the next day it magically vanished,” said the author of one thread. Other players replied, saying the same had happened to them, with some claiming they lost more than eight hours of progress. Many players with similar complaints continued to flood Rise of the Ronin‘s Steam discussion page. Another player claimed they “lost 10 to 15 hours of progress.”

Thankfully, Team Ninja addressed the issue, stating on X, “We are currently investigating the reported save data issues for Rise of the Ronin Steam edition.” The post also linked to a support message providing players with potential workarounds, including finding backup save data, following extra steps when saving to Steam Cloud, or turning off file sharing for Google Drive, OneDrive, or Dropbox. While this is not a permanent solution, it may help players avoid further data loss.

“We are continuing to investigate this issue along with others,” the studio added. “We will make sure to report back as soon as there are any developments. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced.” CGMagazine will also report back when fixes are available.

The PC version of Rise of the Ronin includes several visual upgrades, such as support for 8K resolution, 120 fps, ray tracing, AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution, Nvidia DLSS, and 3D audio. It also features customizable keyboard and mouse settings and full ultra-wide monitor support. Despite the save data issue, Rise of the Ronin on PC has a Metacritic score of 74.
