Online multiplayer is making its way to the lawless world of Red Dead Redemption 2 in the form of Red Dead Online.
The online portion of the game will be free to anyone who buys Red Dead Redemption 2 on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, and the beta will launch at some point in November. Rockstar is calling the new online feature “an evolution,” of the multiplayer from the original Red Dead Redemption and that the new mode will be “blending narrative with competitive and cooperative gameplay in fun new ways.”
Red Dead Online will use the gameplay from the base game as a foundation and will build up from there with a series of updates, aimed at keeping the experience an evolving one. Rockstar is no stranger to supporting online modes in their games, as they continue to update and tweak the experience of their online mode in Grand Theft Auto V. Similarly to GTA V online, players can play alone or as part of a group, although no specific information has been revealed as of yet.
Rockstar did acknowledge that there will be some growing pains for the online mode and said that they look forward to responding to fan feedback and fixing any problems that do crop up. Red Dead Redemption 2 will launch on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 26, 2018.
