Epic Games has revealed that Fortnite’s predecessor, Save The World, is going free to play starting April 16th.
Formally a paid-only game, Fortnite Save The World was the first iteration of what the Fortnite world was back in 2017. It was actually supposed to be the main draw of the series, with Fortnite Battle Royale being a side project. Save The World is now set for a possible resurgence of players as they now have the same formula that made Fortnite Battle Royale so popular in the first place, a good free game to play with friends.

While players wait for April 16th, Epic Games has set up a registration event. The first 1 million people to register on the Fortnite Save The World branch of the Fortnite website will receive exclusive rewards. A banner and a spray are available for the 300,000- and 700,000-reward tiers, respectively, but the third reward for 1,000,000 is a bit different. The Snowstrike hero is the third reward, but is also a Fortnite Save The World exclusive, with the power to use freezing throwing stars to slow enemies with an upgrade that makes them explode as well.
Fortnite Save The World will have a wide release on pretty much every gaming platform that is available right now. PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Nintendo Switch 2, PC, NVIDIA GeForce NOW, and Amazon Luna are all of the platforms that will be able to play Fortnite Save The World. The only exceptions are smartphones and tablets, even with streaming services, and the original Nintendo Switch.

For the loyal players of Fortnite Save The World who stayed with the game after all these years, Epic Games didn’t forget about you. Any veteran of the storm will receive superchargers to upgrade any Hero, weapon, trap, or survivor to level 50, and vouchers to unlock a hero or weapon of the player’s choice, plus a cool 10 thousand gold to spend.
If you have always been curious about Fortnite’s original game or you’ve been playing it for years, you won’t regret registering for some free goodies while you still can.
