Sega Announces Incredibly Fun-Sized Game Gear Micro

An updated version of the 90’s era Sega Game Gear was announced by the company as their next console in Japan.

Far from the likes of an NES Classic, Sega Genesis Mini or the fabled Game Boy Micro, the 2020 reiteration of the Game Gear is small, at a dimension of 80mm*43mm*20mm – roughly the size of a typical Nintendo DS card carrying case or Sega’s 2004 McDonald’s Happy Meal games.

While the consoles won’t ship with a cheeseburger or delicious chicken nuggets, Sega’s Game Gear Micro will come with one of four game options. The system also comes with a clip-on magnifying glass to see any legible information in its Canadian Toonie-sized monitor.

Interestingly, Sega is also celebrating its earliest games released on the Game Gear over 30 years ago. While players can choose between four colours, their built-in games library will also be different.

Proud parents of the Game Gear Micro Black will get Out Run, Puyo Puyo Tsu, Royal Stone and the original Sonic the Hedgehog.

New caretakers of the Blue console get Baku Baku Animal: Sekai Shiikugakari Senshuken, Gunstar Heroes, Sonic & Tails and Sylvian Tale.

Loving maternal figures to the Yellow system get Nazo Puyo: Arle no Roux, Shining Force, Shining Force II and Shining Force: Final Conflict.

Finally, owners tucking their young Red Game Gear Micro to sleep get Columns, The G.G. Shinobi, Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible and its Special version with additional content.

The itty-witty-bitty Sega Game Gear Micro is coming to Japan on October 6, in time for the console’s offical 30th anniversary. So far, the company has no plans on bringing the cuddly-wuddly console to North America or Europe.
