Silent Hill 2 Remake Is PlayStation Exclusive For One Year

Sony has confirmed that the Silent Hill 2 remake will be a PlayStation 5 console exclusive for one year.

First spotted by Eurogamer, a new trailer on PlayStation’s YouTube channel covers the “immersion” Silent Hill 2 features on PS5, with the end of the trailer stating the game as a PS5 console exclusive “not available on other formats until 10.08.2025”

Those other formats are, of course, Xbox Series X|S but could potentially include the Nintendo Switch successor console as well. That partnership with Sony has resulted in more than just exclusivity, as the game fully supports the features of the DualSense controller – haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and the lightbar.

The remake is a complete overhaul of the original game made by Polish developer Bloober Team, the studio behind Layers of Fear, Observer, and The Medium.

If you haven’t played Silent Hill 2, the 2001 game follows James Sunderland who received a letter from his late wife, Mary. Following the clues of the letter James arrives in the titular town, finding it infested with horrific monsters and warped by his own psyche. Silent Hill 2 is largely considered one of the most important survival horror games of all time.

Bloober Team has been vocal about staying “faithful” to the original game, making gameplay changes to make it feel more modern while retaining the story and tone.

In an interview with DreadXP, Bloober Team marketing chief Anna Jasińska said,

“We are focusing on bringing the distinct, visceral atmosphere back in the modernised Silent Hill 2. Longtime fans shouldn’t worry about us ‘missing the point’ while we’re livening up the title. We faithfully stick to the traditional story canon while remaking the gameplay and updating the graphics from the ground up.”

Silent Hill 2 launches on October 8, 2024 for PS5 and PC.
