Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform: Mobile Gaming Has Felt So Good

Today, Qualcomm Technologies has unveiled the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform, and with it, an onslaught of improvements that are guaranteed to up your mobile gaming performance.

Whether you’re on your smartphone, handheld or even some laptops, it is very possible that you are using a Snapdragon chipset. With the newly announced Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, gamers are going to see some major improvements across the board. Qualcomm boasts that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is the world’s fastest SoC, making it the best time to invest in this next-generation chip.

Upgrades usually equal performance in the world of tech, and the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is no different. In this newest variation, you will find the 3rd Gen Qualcomm Oryon CPU. This is the fastest mobile CPU ever, featuring a 20% performance boost compared to the last gen. Qualcomm has also implemented the next generation of the Adreno GPU, which features 23% faster graphics and 20% less power consumption. The new Hexagon NPU delivers a 37% faster AI performance, enabling smarter, faster adaptive gaming.

These three upgrades together promise notable improvements over the last generation. Load times on Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 devices will be faster. Gameplay will be smoother. Devices can take on even the most intense titles. And to top it all off, having less GPU power consumption can keep your device in check, no matter what you’re using it for. Tile Memory Heap maximizes the impact of Adreno RAM, which allows for an optimal use of memory and bandwidth, and this is where a lot of that power reduction comes from. For a gamer, less power usage means more power to play.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 will feature support for several next-gen gaming features. The newly introduced Adreno High Performance Memory (HPM) provides 18MB of dedicated memory for visual rendering. Mesh Shading is also supported, which enables better GPU-driven rendering, further reducing power consumption. The new chip also features full Unreal Engine 5 support for console-quality visuals on mobile devices for the first time.

Visual upgrades don’t end there, though. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 hosts HDR gaming with 10-bit colour and Rec. 2020 colour gamut. You’ll also notice AI-based upscaling to bring you crisp visuals without pushing the GPU. It will also feature hardware-accelerated ray-tracing, bringing realistic lighting and shadows to your mobile device. Partnering perfectly with that is the Game Super Resolution 2.0 and Variable Rate Shading, which will offer sharper images and higher FPS—every frame counts when gaming.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Additional Features:

  • The Qualcomm® FastConnect™ 7900 Mobile Connectivity System with leading Wi-Fi 7 offers up to 40% power savings.
  • Qualcomm® X85 5G Modem-RF sets a new standard in 5G technology, combining Release 17 and 18 capabilities with a 5G AI processor.
  • Up to 50% lower gaming latency with AI-enhanced Wi-Fi.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is the complete ecosystem for mobile gaming. This new generation offers console-rivalling visuals, enhanced connectivity for multiplayer, power management for marathon gamers, and responsiveness good enough for eSports.
