It has been confirmed by SEGA that the toy and costume line for its upcoming Sonic animated series on Netflix, Sonic Prime is coming in 2023.
The news was confirmed in a press release announcing Sega’s partnership with JAKKS Pacific and Disguise. Sonic Prime‘s toy line will be handled by JAKKS Pacific who will bring the animated show to life in the form of action figures, play sets, vehicles, plush and other collectibles.
“SEGA has done a tremendous job telling the story of Sonic through a multitude of medium forums. In addition to the high-octane video games they continue to release and the Sonic Movie 2 coming next year, Sonic Prime’s premiere on Netflix in 2022 will keep fans engaged with the property and give JAKKS a whole new Sonic multiverse to explore through toys and costumes,” Senior Vice President of Marketing at JAKKS Pacific, Craig Drobis said in a press release.
“Our customers are not just kids, but also collectors, and this brand consistently hits the mark with retailers and fans year after year.”
As part of the announcement, JAKKS named Disguise, Inc. as its official costume and costume accessory partner. JAKKS and Disguise will design, manufacture, market and sell Sonic Prime-branded product lines worldwide, commencing in 2023.

“Sonic Prime will feature everyone’s favourite hedgehog setting out on a new adventure, so we’re looking forward to providing innovative products to audiences everywhere that will bring the iconic character to life.”
Sonic Prime is a 3D animated series heading to Netflix in 2022 and was officially announced early last year. The series has been described as a “high-octane adventure where the fate of a strange new multiverse rests in [Sonic‘s] gloved hands”. The series is set to be animated by WildBrain’s Vancouver studio, while Ben 10 creators, Man of Action Entertainment is being brought into the show to serve as the Netflix series’ showrunners and executive producers.
It doesn’t stop their for the chilli dog-loving hedgehog this year. In addition to Sonic Prime coming this year, the sequel to the franchise’s 2020 film, Sonic the Hedghog 2 and Sonic Team’s upcoming game, Sonic Frontiers are all coming in 2022; both were featured at this past Game Awards. It’s going to be a busy year for the blue blur.
